Kylie's Demonstrator Training Blog Hop - June 2020 Spotlight Technique

The card I made for this month's blog hop was super easy and the technique can be used with a multitude of stamp sets. The technique is called the "spotlight technique". It works best with "line" stamps that provide an outline of an image. Stamps used for two- or three-step stamping techniques are really great for the spotlight technique. I used the To a Wild Rose stamp set, which is one that carried over from last year's annual catalog. I'm so happy that it did - I love this set! This is a distinctive, three-step stamping set. This means that to get the full effect of the flower, there are three steps to stamp it. The outline stamp, the full shading and the accent shading stamps.

For the spotlight technique, use the outline stamp to stamp the outlined image all over the background of the card (Whisper White cardstock, 5 1/4" x 4") in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink. Then you will "spotlight" one of the images by stamping the other two steps on just one of the flowers. I chose one where most of the image was on the background. I used the Stamparatus to make sure I got the images lined up right - that makes it so much easier. And if you wanted to make multiple cards of the same layout, the Stamparatus is the way to go!

Stamp the other two steps onto one of the outlined images using Terracotta Tile Ink. For the full shading layer, I placed a piece of scrap paper over the image on the Stamparatus before I stamped it - so the top layer of ink was "stamped off". Then I stamped the third layer with Terracotta Tile Ink full strength.

Stamp the word "Blessed" on a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock and cut out with a label from the Tasteful Labels dies. If you don't have these dies, you could use any label punch or die you have that you like. Cut about a 3 3/4" piece of ribbon from the Terracotta Tile Scalloped Linen Ribbon and glue it down toward the top of the card. Place the sentiment on top of the ribbon using glue dots. Glue this layer to the cardbase of Terracotta Tile (5 1/2" x 8 1/2").

For the inside of the card (see picture below), stamp the outline stamp in the bottom corner using Tuxedo Black Memento Ink onto a piece of Whisper White cardstock (5 1/4" x 4"). Stamp the same image onto a PostIt Note and fussy cut it out to use as a mask. Place the mask on top of the stamped image. Stamp the leaves onto the inside piece so they look like they are behind the stamped rose image. Remove the mask. Stamp the sentiment in Tuxedo Black Memento Ink toward the top. Adhere this piece to the inside of the card.
